Extended Neck Lift

The neck and lower face are among the first areas to show signs of aging, such as sagging skin, jowls, and vertical neck bands. While a traditional neck lift primarily focuses on tightening the skin and muscles of the neck, and a facelift addresses concerns in the mid to lower face, an extended neck lift takes facial rejuvenation a step further.

By addressing the neck and the jawline, an extended neck lift provides a more comprehensive transformation for people from Wellesley, Natick, Framingham, and throughout the western suburbs of Boston and Providence, RI; southern New Hampshire; and southern Vermont.

What Is an Extended Neck Lift?

An extended neck lift is a specialized surgical procedure that tightens and refines the neck and targets the lower face by incorporating elements of a facelift. Extending the neck lift into the lower face reduces sagging, smooths creases, and sharpens the jawline, creating more defined facial contours and a more youthful appearance.

Is an Extended Neck Lift Right for You?

An extended neck lift may be right for you if you have the following traits:

  • Pronounced jowls
  • Visible sagging in the lower face and neck
  • Noticeable neck bands
  • Crepey, wrinkled neck skin

You should be a nonsmoker in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure and its results.

Many patients also choose to combine their extended neck lifts with procedures such as brow lift surgery and eyelid surgery for full-face rejuvenation.

How Much Does an Extended Neck Lift Cost in Boston?

The overall cost for an extended neck lift in Boston depends on various factors, such as the extent of your correction, whether you combine additional procedures and your aesthetic goals. During your personal consultation with Dr. Davidson, he’ll share a detailed treatment plan with specific pricing. While the procedure is not covered by insurance, we offer various financing options.

Your Experience

We typically perform extended neck lift surgery using local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, although general anesthesia is also available. Dr. Davidson makes incisions around the ears and under the chin. Through these incisions, he tightens the underlying platysma muscles and removes excess skin and fat from the neck and lower face. The skin is then carefully redraped for a natural-looking rejuvenation. This approach allows us to lift and smooth the jawline.

Your Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery from an extended neck lift is similar to that from a traditional neck lift or facelift. You should expect to devote about 1 to 2 weeks to recovery and downtime.

While everyone varies, here’s what extended neck lift patients typically experience after surgery:

  • Swelling and bruising, which substantially subsides after a couple of weeks
  • Wearing a chin strap to minimize swelling
  • Resting with your head elevated
  • Avoiding strenuous exercise for 4 weeks

Dr. Davidson’s surgical techniques and post-op protocols are designed to accelerate healing. Adhering to your post-op protocol is essential to achieving your desired results, which will appear gradually in the weeks following surgery.

Your Extended Neck Lift Results

An extended neck lift can significantly improve your appearance, making you look several years younger. You can expect a firmer, more defined neck and jawline and smoother skin around your lower face—helping you look like a refreshed, younger version of yourself. Extended neck lift results can last 10 years, especially if you maintain a healthy weight, avoid sun exposure, and maintain healthy skincare and lifestyle habits.

Extended Neck Lift FAQs

Q. Do I need a neck lift or an extended neck lift?

A. If your concerns include your jawline, you’re likely a better candidate for an extended neck lift than a neck lift alone. In addition to smoothing your neck, an extended neck lift addresses aging symptoms such as jowls and marionette lines for more extensive correction.

Q. Are there nonsurgical alternatives to an extended neck lift?

A. Yes, if you prefer less invasive alternatives to neck surgery, Dr. Davidson performs nonsurgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, laser skin resurfacing, and injections of KYBELLA®, a double chin treatment. These procedures require less downtime, but their results are more subtle than those of an extended neck lift.

Q. Will I have extended neck lift scars?

A. Every surgery leaves a potential scar, but Dr. Davidson uses his surgical skill and advanced techniques to minimize your incisions and ensure your extended neck lift scars are well concealed. Extended neck lift scars gradually flatten and fade over time.
