Natural Looking Breast Implants: What You Need To Know for Beautiful Results

When considering breast augmentation, one of the biggest concerns many women share is whether their results will look natural. The good news? With the right choices in implant size, shape, and placement—and the expertise of a skilled surgeon—it’s absolutely possible to have breast implants that look and feel natural. Let’s break down the key factors that influence your final results and help you feel confident about your transformation.

Implant Size: Finding the Right Fit

Choosing the right size for your breast implants isn’t just about going bigger. You want to find a size that complements your body’s natural proportions, aligns with your aesthetic goals, and fits your lifestyle. Implants that are too large can appear out of place, while implants that are too small may not provide the enhancement you’re hoping for.

At my practice, I use tools such as sizers to help you visualize how different sizes will look on your body. During your consultation, I’ll work closely with you to ensure we choose a size that enhances your natural beauty and flatters your frame.

Implant Shape: Round vs. Teardrop

The shape of your implants plays a significant role in creating a natural look:

  • Round implants add fullness to the upper part of the breast, which can enhance cleavage and provide a slightly more noticeable enhancement.
  • Teardrop implants, on the other hand, are designed to mimic the natural slope of the breast, offering a more subtle and anatomically accurate appearance.

We’ll discuss the pros and cons of each option based on your unique anatomy and aesthetic preferences to find the right fit for you.

Implant Placement: Behind the Muscle or Breast Tissue?

Where your implants are placed—either behind the chest muscle (submuscular) or the breast tissue (subglandular)—significantly affects the look achieved.

  • Submuscular placement is often recommended for its ability to create softer, more natural-looking contours, especially for women with less natural breast tissue. It also reduces the risk of visible rippling.
  • Subglandular placement may be a good choice for certain patients but offers less coverage for the implant, making it appear less natural in some cases.

In most cases, I prefer submuscular placement to help my patients achieve their desired results with optimal longevity and minimal complications.

Implant Material: Silicone vs. Saline

Another key factor in achieving natural results is the material of your implants:

  • Silicone gel implants are often the go-to choice for patients seeking the most natural feel. The cohesive gel inside mimics the softness of natural breast tissue, making these implants nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.
  • Saline implants are firmer to the touch but offer other benefits, such as requiring a smaller incision and being filled after placement.

I also offer cohesive silicone gel implants, often called “gummy bear” implants. These provide an exceptionally realistic look and feel.

Why the Right Surgeon Makes All the Difference

Even with the perfect implant size, shape, and material, your results depend heavily on your surgeon’s expertise. Crafting a natural look requires more than technical skill—it demands an artistic eye, attention to detail, and an understanding of your individual anatomy.

As a Harvard-trained, board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience in breast augmentation, I take pride in creating personalized results that enhance your natural beauty.
