Liposuction

Are you generally pretty happy with the way your body looks, but no mater how much you exercise, you just can’t seem to get rid of a few little problem areas? Liposuction may be a dream come true for you. A highly effective body contouring surgery, it is the most common cosmetic plastic surgery procedure performed in the United States today. It is both an artistic and scientific procedure that sculpts and defines your body contour by using a thin tube attached to a vacuum device to remove unwanted fat from specific areas such as your: arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, ankles, and chin/neck. Although it is ideal for those who have isolated deposits of fat, it is not recommended for weight loss and will not typically produce any major weight loss results. Liposuction is equally effective when it is used as a single procedure or in conjunction with other procedures.

Liposuction Procedure

During Liposuction, Dr. Davidson will make a tiny incision through which he will insert a liposuction wand to loosen and suction the excess fat.
There are three major types of liposuction techniques, each involving different kinds of suction equipment.

Suction-Assisted Liposuction (SAL):

This is the traditional method by which Dr. Davidson removes fat by inserting a small, hollow tube connected to a vacuum pressure unit. He directs the tube into areas to be suctioned through tiny incisions.

Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL):

This technique uses a powerized tube which moves back and forth through the fat tissue in a rapid motion. With PAL, less force is required to remove unwanted fat, especially in areas of more fibrous tissue. PAL is not ultrasonic, and no heat is generated.

Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL):

This technique uses a special tube that produces ultrasonic energy to liquefy fat, which can then be suctioned out. UAL is especially effective for certain fibrous areas of your body, such as the upper back or the enlarged male breast. It takes a bit longer than traditional liposuction.

Liposuction Recovery

You will see almost immediate results after your liposuction procedure is complete. And they will continue to improve as your swelling subsides. If you had your procedure under general anesthesia, you will typically require one to three hours of post-anesthesia observation before being discharged home. Compression garments or taping of the treated areas will help reduce swelling, and are recommended for about four to six weeks. Oral medication will control any initial discomfort you may feel.

Liposuction

Sometimes no matter how much we exercise, it seems as if we can’t get the results we want on problem areas of the body. Women frequently voice dissatisfaction with the appearance of the thighs, hips and belly. If your routine isn’t giving you the results you want, perhaps liposuction can get you the rest of the way there. This body contouring surgery is the most commonly performed in the United States, and its helped many people reach the goals that they could not with diet and exercise.

Liposuction is not recommended for those who desire weight loss, but rather is aimed at patients who want to remove isolated quantities of fat. A slender tube attached to a vacuum is used in the procedure and can focus on problem areas such as hips, thighs, knees, ankles, chin and neck, arms and abdomen. Liposuction is just as effective when performed on its own as it is in conjunction with other surgical procedures. If you want to learn more about liposuction, Dr. Davidson can help you!

Types of Liposuction

To perform liposuction, Dr. Davidson will insert the liposuction wand through a small incision to loosen excess fat and suction it out. There are three different techniques used in the liposuction procedure, and each makes use of a different type of equipment to achieve unique results.

Suction-Assisted Liposuction (SAL):

In this traditional method, fat is removed by making minor incisions and inserting a small tube into them using suction.

Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL):

PAL is a useful technique since it requires less force than the SAL method to remove fat, especially in areas with more fibrous tissue. It entails using a tube which moves quickly back and forth through the fat tissue, but since it is not ultrasonic, it does not generate any heat.

Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL):

The UAL method uses a special type of tube which produces ultrasonic energy. This process will liquefy fat, which makes it easier to suction out of the body. With problem areas such as the male breast, this is a very effective procedure, but it also takes longer than the other methods. However, when it comes to stubborn fibrous areas, this is the way to go.

Recovery After Liposuction

If you’re hopeful about seeing results immediately after your surgery, you will be pleased with the liposuction process. You will cope with some swelling at first, but it will subside with rest and proper care. Compression garments can help to reduce this swelling and should be worn for four to six weeks after your surgery. If you experience pain during the healing process, from liposuction, Dr. Davidson can recommend oral medications to help to keep it under control.
